The Colosseum |
The colosseum is first of all the largest amphitheatre ever built in the roman empire and one of the top Italian tourist attraction. Its construction started under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD in the site of the former Nero's golden House, known as the Domus Aurea. Originally, it was called Flavian Amphitheatre, simply because the Vespasian's Family name was Flavius. The colosseum was inaugurated by Vespasian's son Titus, in 80 AD. |

St. Peter's Square |
The monumental elliptical square of St. Peter is undoubtedly the masterpiece of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, designed and built between 1657-1667, during the pontificate of Alexander VII and of Clement IX. The facade of St Peter, designed by Carlo Maderno and built between 1608 and 1612, is huge; it measures 118 by 48 meters (387 by 157 feet). The eight massive columns of the facade are almost 10ft wide and 90 feet high. |

The Sistine Chapel |
The Sistine chapel (Cappella Sistina in Italian) is located at the southern end of the Vatican Museums and at 5 minutes walk from St. Peter's Basilica. If we look it from the outside, the Sistine Chapel is of no great architectural interest. The chapel has a rectangular shape and measures 41 x 13 meters (134 x 43 feet) and was built using ordinary bricks. The chapel is 20.70 meters high (68 feet) and has a barrel-shaped roof. As we said, there is nothing spectacular about the building itself. All its beauty is in fact on the inside amazing frescos. |

The Pantheon |
Located in the Piazza della Rotonda, the Pantheon is the most ancient building of Rome and the best preserved in Europe. Initially erected in 27 BC by Marcus Agrippa, son-in-law of Emperor Augustus, was destroyed and later completely rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian, who maintained the old massive inscription at the front celebrating Agrippa. |

Trevi Fountain |
Trevi Fountain is indeed the most beautiful of Rome's fountain; it became even more famous after the Anita Ekberg 's midnight dip in Fellini's classic film ''La dolce vita'' (The Sweet Life). The fountains marks the terminal point of the Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome. |
